A Vision in the Sky: Photographer Captures Breathtaking Double Rainbow Framing a Lightning Strike
In a moment that could only be described as magical, photographer Jason Rinehart captured a truly awe-inspiring scene: a powerful lightning bolt seemingly trapped within the vibrant arc of a double rainbow. This extraordinary photograph, taken in the dramatic landscape of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, showcases the beauty and unpredictability of nature.

“The rain stopped just in time as this incredible rainbow started to form right in front of me,” Rinehart recalls. “I quickly set up my Canon 6d, equipped with a Sigma 14-24mm lens and a Haida rear mount six-stop ND filter, and began shooting in continuous mode.”
As the vibrant double rainbow arched across the sky, Rinehart knew he was witnessing something truly special. The colors were breathtaking, a vibrant spectacle that took his breath away. “Being a photographer, knowing you’re capturing something so special is a pretty indescribable feeling,” he shares. “In these moments, the image speaks for itself.”
Then, the unexpected happened. “This bolt dropped right out of the sky, perfectly framed within this beautiful rainbow,” Rinehart exclaims. “It was a moment of pure joy.”
This extraordinary photograph serves as a testament to the power of observation and the rewards of pursuing one’s passion. “It’s a beautiful thing to be passionate about something enough to share a gift with the world,” Rinehart humbly admits. “These are the moments that make life feel truly alive.”

Living in the area means that he’s become adept at reading the weather conditions.
Recently, he was tracking the radar and noticed a line of storms that would pass overhead at sunset.
