Her dog leads her father to a stray puppy sleeping in a muddy ditch

“After everything she’s been through, I’m not sure how she’s still so sweet.”

William Thomas Green got up early last September to accompany his rescue pittie, Cokie, to the dog park. He wasn’t going to deny his energetic dog a stroll and a game of fetch just because it had poured all night. But something drew Cokie’s attention when he let her off the leash.

Green told The Dodo, “Cokie raced back to an area of the park and wouldn’t quit gazing at me.” “I walked back to see what was bothering her so much.”

Green’s heart was broken by what he discovered.

Cokie brought her father to a muddy pool where a dog was lying. The foxhound, who had been abandoned during the night’s storm, was so thin and unwell that she couldn’t stand.

Green stated, “I quickly ran to the car and brought her food and water.” “She was able to get up and wouldn’t leave my side after she ate and drank.”

Green petted and scratched the dog repeatedly, and he could see her begin to relax. The dog was diagnosed with heartworms and whipworms at the veterinarian’s office. She was also severely emaciated and had previously been used for breeding. Green gave the puppy the name Lucky Lucy.

He transported Lucy home to Huntsville, Alabama, after a few days of recovery, and presented her to the rest of his family. “My wife’s parents and my younger brother-in-law fell in love with her right away,” Green added. “They took her in, and she’s now over 60 pounds and the happiest dog you’ll ever meet.”

Lucy came to realize that she was finally secure after months of care and love.

“Lucy was really hesitant for the first two weeks,” Green recalled, “and despite being a foxhound, she wouldn’t scream or growl at anything.” “As she grew more at ease, she began to do small ‘awoos,’ and we could see she was beginning to trust everyone in the family.” She now goes insane and yells like the home is being broken into if she even sees a bird outside.”

Since their initial chance encounter, Cokie and Lucy’s connection has developed and strengthened. “All she wants to do is play with Cokie in the backyard and at the dog park,” Green added. “Lucy constantly invites Cokie into her bed, and the two of them snuggle. With them, there’s a big sister-little sister sense.”

Green is thankful that he was in the right location at the right moment to provide Lucy with the assistance she required. Green and his family have received nothing but affection in return from Lucy.

“It’s fantastic that she’s been given a second shot,” Green added. “I’m not sure how she’s still so kind after everything she’s been through.”
