A loyal dog is heroically responsible for saving his 88-year-old owner’s life. Sandy, the rescued dog, alerted a garbage worker and finally led him to his owner, who had fallen down the steps and was unable to walk!
Gwendola Johnson of Glendale, California, decided to give a stray dog a lifelong home a few years ago. Sandy has always been a devoted and protective dog since then, but Gwendola had no idea that the dog whose life she had just rescued would repay his loyalty in the same way.
Gwendola is still in such fantastic form at 88 years old, and she lives alone with just her faithful animal companion by her side. Her legs, however, are not as strong as they once were, and they occasionally cause her trouble. Like last summer, when Gwendola stepped out of her house and collapsed to the ground. Fortunately, she was unharmed, but she was unable to escape along the alley. Given the distance between her driveway and the road, the odds of someone seeing her were slim. Gwendola noticed a sanitation worker after almost an hour and realized this was her opportunity.
Despite this, the man was too far away to hear the old woman shouting. It was when Sandy took the initiative!
Sandy approached the man, known as Kirk White, as he was lugging the garbage cans along the main alley, and began barking at him furiously. Kirk, a Glendale Integrated Waste Management employee, had encountered Sandy before and knew he wasn’t a violent dog. As a result, he assumed something had gone wrong!
“I have something to show you – come follow me this way, there’s something I want you to see,” the guy subsequently told NBC Los Angeles.
Gwendola was resting on the alley right in front of her front door when Kirk decided to follow Sandy. The man then assisted her in standing up and checked for injuries. Thankfully, the woman’s life was spared thanks to the dog’s efforts and Kirk’s determination to ‘listen’ to him!
Gwendola later recalled, “When I spotted him, I told Sandy, ‘You go grab him,’ and he did.” “He was a wonderful kid, and Kurt happened to come up the driveway at just the perfect moment.”
