Sir David Attenborough, a British legend and nature presenter, has been named as one of the Nobel Peace Prize finalists for this year.
The World Health Organization (WHO) and Belarusian dissident Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya are also among the finalists, after receiving support from Norwegian MPs who have a history of selecting the winner.
According to last-minute announcements, Pope Francis, the Myanmar National Unity Government created by opponents of last year’s coup, and Tuvalu’s foreign minister Simon Kofe are all contenders for the award.
Thousands of individuals are eligible to suggest candidates, ranging from members of parliaments throughout the world to previous winners.
