Have you ever experienced the shock of discovering an unexpected guest in your home? For one Florida couple, Brian and Cathy, what began as a routine bathroom visit turned into a viral sensation. Cathy screamed in disbelief when she saw tiny eyes staring back at her from their bathroom sink. As it turns out, a small animal had made himself quite at home in their plumbing!
An Unexpected Visitor
About a month and a half ago, Brian and Cathy’s lives took an unexpected turn. One day, while using their bathroom, they made a startling discovery: a frog had somehow made its way into their bathroom sink, living comfortably in the overflow hole.
“My wife screamed when she first saw the head poking through the overflow hole,” Brian recalled, talking about the moment Cathy first spotted their tiny guest. They soon realized the frog had likely entered through their home’s plumbing system, possibly through a vent connected to the roof, a situation not uncommon in Florida.
Meet Sinkfrog – The Sink-Loving Frog
It wasn’t long before Brian and Cathy decided to name their new little housemate Sinkfrog. Despite the shock, they both tried to coax the frog out of the sink, but Sinkfrog had different plans. He seemed content in his new home, refusing to leave the cozy space.
“We think he entered our plumbing from a toilet vent on our roof, which is common in Florida,” Brian explained. The couple, like many Floridians, knew that wildlife often finds its way into homes, but having a frog take up residence in the bathroom sink was definitely a first!
Viral Fame and a Dilemma
As days passed, Brian and Cathy documented Sinkfrog’s unusual behavior, sharing their experience on social media. Their story quickly gained attention, with people all over the internet fascinated by the frog’s choice of habitat. Despite Sinkfrog’s online fame, Brian and Cathy faced a dilemma. The frog had been living in their guest bathroom for nearly six weeks, and with their adult son visiting soon, they needed the space back.
But there was a catch: Cathy, a devoted animal lover, didn’t want to harm Sinkfrog. “We needed to clear the sink since it was a guest bathroom, but my wife didn’t want to hurt Sinkfrog,” Brian said.
A New Home for Sinkfrog
Finally, after six weeks, Sinkfrog emerged from his hideout, giving Brian and Cathy the opportunity to get a good look at him. They identified him as a Cuban tree frog, an invasive species in Florida. The discovery meant they couldn’t simply release Sinkfrog back into the wild.
Faced with a tough decision, the couple chose to keep Sinkfrog. They purchased a large terrarium to house him, providing him with a much better living environment than a sink. “Once we freed Sinkfrog, we were able to observe and interact with him, which helped build a bond between us,” Brian said.
A Bond That Lasts
Sinkfrog, the viral sensation, now enjoys the comfort of his new home, and Brian and Cathy have embraced their new, unexpected pet. “Now, he’s got it good,” Brian mentioned, reflecting on the strange but heartwarming journey of adopting a frog.
Though Sinkfrog no longer lives in their bathroom, Brian still finds himself peeking into the sink overflow hole, half expecting to see those tiny eyes staring back at him. “I still look into that hole every time I go into that bathroom,” Brian admitted. “Then I remember Sinkfrog is living large in his new terrarium.”
The Joys of Unexpected Companionship
While not everyone would welcome a frog in their sink, Brian and Cathy’s story is a reminder of the unexpected joys that can come from life’s little surprises. What started as a shock and inconvenience has turned into a heartwarming story of compassion, connection, and a unique pet.
