A shelter dog gets all dolled up to meet his new family, but they never appear

“It tore our hearts apart.”

After nearly a year at the Kentucky Humane Society, Hendrix thought he’d finally found his forever family.

The Staffordshire terrier mix suited up and showed up to Sam Swope Pet Treatment & Lifesaving Center on Tuesday, eager to meet his possible owners. The meet-and-greet was the last stage in the process; the family had previously completed an application and spoken with shelter personnel. But they never showed up after that.

Hendrix eventually recognized that this wasn’t going to be his day.

Megan Decker, media manager at the Kentucky Humane Society, told The Dodo, “We waited over 30 minutes for them and never received a call or heard from them.” “Hendrix was decked up in his harness and grinning from ear to ear as he waited for them to arrive, but they never did.” It tore our hearts apart.”

Hendrix was rescued from an overcrowded rural shelter last April and brought to the humane society. With his humorous and energetic demeanor, the 4-year-old canine soon captured the hearts of everyone he encountered.

“Because he’s always snorting, he’s almost more pig-like than dog-like,” Decker added. “Because he has such a short nose, he constantly snorts and snorts.” He never fails to make us chuckle! He also snores obnoxiously loudly, which is a lot of fun to listen to.”

The outgoing dog enjoys playing outside and then lounging about, soaking up all of the attention he can receive.

“Hendrix is incredibly soft and kind, and he loves humans so much,” Decker added. “He’s met youngsters as young as five, and all he does is flop down for a belly rub and snort with joy.”

Hendrix is searching for someone to adore him and provide him a fulfilling life, in addition to a cat-free environment. The shelter staff knows the proper home is out there for him, which is why seeing his aspirations dashed was so devastating.

“Watching him wait for a family, only to be turned down, is heartbreaking,” Kentucky Humane Society stated on Facebook. “It hurts us to see our darling kid sad.”
