A stray mother dog chose to put her life on the line to protect her puppies. With temperatures plummeting below zero and heavy snowfall, Hera frightened for the safety of her offspring, so she put her faith in some strangers, believing that they would be nice and assist her and her puppies. Hera’s tale, thankfully, has a good ending!
Hera gave birth to a litter of three puppies in a drainage pipe outside a Serbian hamlet without a roof over her head. Things weren’t ideal, but at least they were protected from the wind, and the devoted mother was able to feed herself by scratching nearby. However, the winter soon overtook Hera and her children, making it difficult for them to stay there. She didn’t have a choice, unfortunately.
When it appeared that the little puppies and their mother were doomed, the odds changed in their favor. Milan from Dog Rescue Shelter Mladenovac hurried to help them when a concerned citizen phoned him to inform him of Hera’s plight.
Hera was surprised to find herself happy than ever when she saw Milan, and she even ran out the pipe to welcome him and inform him of her defenseless children. The puppies were around 4-weeks-old and appeared to be in good health, but rescuing them proved considerably more difficult than anybody had anticipated.
Even having their mother at the end of the line to reassure them that everything is fine, the puppies had never been near a person before, making them difficult to approach. Milan, on the other hand, did not drive all the way there only to abandon them. He tried for hours in the bitter cold to pull them out, and with the help of a broom, he ultimately succeeded.
Milan took the three pups into his arms after rescuing them and returned them with their mother, who was anxiously waiting inside the VAN. Thanks to the compassion of individuals and Hera’s fortitude, Hera and her kids are now safe and warm at the shelter!
