“He barked twice, as if to say, ‘Get up!'”
Toby is a sweet and attentive rescue dog who lives in Canada with his owner, Ruth Hamilton. The puppy has been her constant companion since she adopted him.
Toby, on the other hand, has recently proven himself to be her hero as well.
Hamilton was sleeping in her bed the other night when she was startled awake by an unexpected sound around 11:30. It was Toby, and his message appeared to be urgent.
“He barked twice, almost as if to say, ‘Get up!'” Hamilton revealed to The Dodo. “It was a very loud bark. My family believes he was the one who made me roll over.”
And that’s a good thing he did.
Hamilton then heard a crash directly overhead.
Incredibly, a large chunk of meteor had slammed through Hamilton’s house at high speed, landing almost exactly where she had been dozing.
“I leapt out of bed. I was completely unharmed “Hamilton explained. “When Toby stopped barking, I thought to myself, ‘Did that really just happen?'”
Hamilton later reported the incident, and it was confirmed that the rock came from space; other witnesses in the area confirmed seeing a meteor crash to Earth that evening.
Toby’s warning could have saved Hamilton’s life. But how did the dog know a few moments before?
“When meteors enter the atmosphere, there is sometimes a bang. He could have been reacting to that “Hamilton explained. “His hearing is superior to ours because he is a dog. But we will never know for sure.”
Toby has always been quick to warn Hamilton when he hears animals outside or cars approaching.
But his vigilance is clearly not limited to earthly dangers.
Of course, Hamilton’s house will need to be repaired, but the terrifying incident could have ended much worse if it hadn’t been for the dog she rescued.
“Toby has been excellent company. “I adore him,” Hamilton said, laughing, “and my grandchildren think ‘Paw Patrol’ should do an episode about him.””
