This month’s newborn dolphin was found abandoned on a Welsh beach by a small dog named Leia, who later saved his life.
“I was taking shots of the magnificent surroundings when I heard my dog shouting at me from further down the beach… plainly she had found something,” her owner said in a YouTube video of the rescue.
As he got closer, he saw that Leia had discovered a young dolphin (or young porpoise, perhaps?) stranded on the sand. While filming the rescue, this nice Samaritan led the infant back into the water softly and cautiously.
“I remained on the scene for some time after to make sure he hadn’t returned. As soon as I got a signal, I spoke with the coast guard, who then informed the science team. Consider the tiny boy lucky because there was no one nearby for miles “The rescuer made a YouTube video.
Once the young dolphin was safe and swimming once more, he gave him the name Buddy and took a picture.
Of course, Leia, who saw another animal in trouble and alerted her humans, was the actual hero of the day. He posted on YouTube, “… If it wasn’t for my dog howling at me, I would have missed him too.”
Well done, girl!
