In North Texas, United States, a lightning strike caused a wind turbine to catch fire. Fox News reports that the event happened on Friday. Fire Chief Perry Shaw informed the source that despite the arrival of crews from the Crowell Volunteer Fire Department, the fire could not be extinguished.
On various social media sites, an eyewitness’ video of the hypnotic image has gone viral. The video clip showed the wind turbine generator engulfed in flames and exploding over Crowell, Texas. The enormous edifice was seen spinning as it burnt and blowing grey rings of smoke.
According to an eyewitness quoted by Viral Hog, “Lightning struck the tip of a wind turbine blade while I was plowing a few fields away, and approximately 5 minutes later it started on fire, then entirely came apart.”
Speaking to Fox News, Mr. Shaw calculated that the ground-level transformer held 1,300 gallons of mineral oil and the gearbox contained 800 gallons of oil, which contributed to the smoke’s appearance of pitch-black darkness in the sky. The firefighters, he claimed, were “not equipped” to deal with this kind of fire. Nobody in the neighborhood is actually noteworthy, he said.
The facility’s manager, Innergex Renewable Energy, also said that everyone working there is secure. It added that only one of its energy turbines was affected by the incident.
In the meantime, a video from last month documented the horrific moment a lightning strike wrecked a yacht off the coast of Florida. A personal marine yacht that had been struck by lightning 100 miles off the coast of Clearwater required the rescue of seven people. A video of the incident, which captured the instant lightning struck the boat, was made available by the Florida Coast Guard.
