Claire Cummings was walking down the street to visit a friend when she came upon a plush pig on the pavement. She peeked in her rearview mirror to get a better look as she drove on, thinking it was strange, and saw a dog leaning over a wall, urgently attempting to reclaim his toy pig.
The dog had somehow fallen his toy over the wall, and no one knew how long he had been waiting for someone to come along and aid him.
“He could have easily hopped over the wall he was leaning on to grab it,” Cummings said, “but has obviously been educated very well not to go over the wall.”
Cummings, who operates a dog walking business with her boyfriend and has always had a soft heart for animals, knew what she had to do as soon as she learned what was going on.
She turned the car around, stopped over, and approached the befuddled dog to assist him in reclaiming his prized toy.
“We are major animal lovers, and we would have hated to think that he may have been sitting there waiting for rescue,” Cummings added.
The dog was overjoyed to get the toy back in his possession and gratefully took some attention and pats in return. He stood there watching his new acquaintance get into her car, and as she drove away, she looked back and saw he was gone.
He’d joyfully returned inside with his toy, and Cummings was overjoyed that she’d been able to make the adorable dog’s day better.
