Most people certainly don’t think of newts as cute pets, but one glance at this gorgeous pair of cuddling salamanders may might alter your mind. Moi, a Twitter user, caught a lovely photograph of a newt that takes the cake for the cutest newt picture pose in a decade. That’s because, in the ten years that the Japanese breeder has been rearing the amphibians, no such picture-perfect situation has ever presented itself.
In fact, Moi was so taken with the position that she posted it on Twitter with the remark, “I’ve been raising newts for nearly 10 years and snapped the prettiest photo of them, so I’d want everyone to see.” And, judging on the over 120,000 likes, netizens think that the photo is pretty darn sweet. The photograph depicts two newts that appear to be beaming from ear to ear as one offers the other a bear embrace from behind. To make matters more sweeter, the one on the bottom appears to be giving his companion a piggyback ride.
One reviewer even likened the lovely photo to a moment from Titanic. Others speculated on who the pleasant duo best resembles, including the inseparable amphibian companions Frog and Toad from the popular children’s book series. However, after witnessing how lovely these two newts are when they grin for the camera, one can only imagine how much cuter they are when no one is watching.
