Have you ever played hide and seek with small children? Instead of hiding, they close their eyes to avoid being observed. Animals aren’t all that different. This pup was similarly resting down against a wall, hoping not to be noticed.
June Cash, a puppy, was abandoned at a North Carolina animal shelter. There was something unusual about her. She was so terrified of other dogs that she would hide in the kennel’s corner, facing the wall.
Tammy Graves, founder of the pet rescue group The Haley Graves Foundation, observed June Cash’s strange behavior after around 18 hours. Graves discovered that the puppy had not eaten or moved since she had entered the house.
Graves agreed to assist June Cash and enticed her out with food before transporting her to a vet. She was discovered to have a serious heartworm infection and, to make matters worse, she had been abused by her former owner.
Fortunately, at her foster home, June began to recover both physically and spiritually. She enjoys lengthy walks and is becoming more at ease with her foster father. All she needed was someone she could rely on for tolerance and affection.
She is now available for adoption to families that match Graves’ stringent standards. Hopefully, she will be content in her new surroundings.
