This is the touching moment a wild horse reunites with his sweetheart after a two-year separation. But none of this would have been possible if it hadn’t been for the wonderful individuals at the Skydog Sanctuary, who dedicate their lives to rescuing mustangs.
Wild horses (and a few other species) have lifetime relationships, which is unusual in the animal world. That’s why they have such a strong family resemblance. After all, that’s why this reunion was so emotional!
The beginning of this happy ending narrative was a snap. The shot depicts the stunning Phoenix, a wild stallion, eluding capture in a spectacular way. The mustang returned to aid his soulmate Ghost, who was still held captive there with other wild horses, when he managed to free himself.
Clare Staples, CEO of the Skydog Sanctuary, was surfing through Facebook when she came across a stunning photo published by the American Wild Horse Campaign. The woman was so taken aback by it that she vowed to do all in her power to reunite the two horses. But it’ll be a challenging assignment!
Clare and her dedicated crew attempted, but failed, to adopt both horses. “They informed us that both Phoenix and his female partner will be released back into the wild at some point, which we were pleased to hear,” the lady wrote. Nonetheless, the prospects of them being released were dwindling by the day.
Phoenix was still held hostage over a year later, and Ghost was nowhere to be found. Clare discovered that the mustang might not be released into the wild after all. She applied to adopt the stallion at that time. Despite her success, Clare was disappointed that she was unable to reconnect Phoenix with his soulmate.
“I wanted to offer him the freedom he so desperately desired on the day he was apprehended,” she said to THE DODO. “I was continually on the lookout for his mare, but I never saw her.” When we opened the trail entrance, he bolted… I’ve always had the impression that he was grieving…”
But there is always a reward when you are motivated to succeed and never give up. Clare was well aware of this. So, after more than two years, she and her team have finally accomplished the seemingly impossible. Phoenix and Ghost are together at long last! Naturally, the reunion of the two gorgeous horses after years apart was quite emotional.
“I saw Ghost on the Internet Adoption approximately two years after the roundup and instantly bid on her to reunite her with Phoenix,” Clare said. “We are overjoyed that she [Ghost] has returned to her family and that they will finally be able to live out their lives together after everything they have been through.”
In the video below, you can see them reconcile in a sweet moment.
