“You could tell he just had the swim of his life.”
Bryn Crowell and a few pals were out on a boat off the coast of Florida the other day when something in the sea caught her eye. Crowell suspected someone aboard had misplaced their hat when the boat driver paused and circled around.
“My initial impression was, ‘Wow, that hat looks like a dog,'” Crowell said. “After another second, I realized it WAS a dog!”
Nobody knew how the dog got there, so far from shore. However, without hesitation, one of Crowell’s pals jumped in to help the suffering dog.
Here’s a video of the moment:

The small puppy was scared, but he was lucky to be alive.
“You could tell he’d had the best swim of his life,” Crowell remarked.
Luckily, the dog, Zuko, was wearing a collar with his owner’s contact information on it.
“We phoned and could hear them weeping and distressed on the phone,” Crowell explained.
Zuko’s owners were also out on a boat that day. Their dog had somehow managed to tumble overboard without them knowing in time. Zuko’s life has been saved thanks to Crowell and her friends.
“When we returned Zuko, we saw [his owners] sobbing and cuddling him tight,” Crowell added.
The owners afterwards messaged to express their appreciation and to describe their panic when they discovered Zuko was missing:
Zuko’s owners also submitted a snapshot of a recent purchase they’d made, which will aid in Zuko’s safety when out on the lake in the future.
What should have been a tragic finish for the small puppy turned out to be a joyful ending. Crowell and her friends are simply grateful that they were able to assist Zuko when he needed it the most.
“I’ve spent my entire life on boats and in the ocean and I’ve never seen anything like it,” Crowell added.
