It’s truly devastating how easily some people abandon their pets. In a heartbreaking incident caught on camera, one poor dog was left in the middle of the street — and, not understanding what had just happened, he desperately ran after the car that had dumped him 😢💔
The sight was almost unbearable to watch.
The dog, a Bull Terrier mix later named Chico, was reportedly pushed out of a black Lexus in Long Beach, California. Moments later, he was seen chasing the vehicle, clearly believing his owner was simply driving away temporarily — not abandoning him forever.
A bystander captured the painful moment on video. According to reports, the witness confronted the woman in the car and demanded she take the dog back. Instead, she allegedly laughed, rolled up her window, and drove off, leaving Chico confused and alone in the street.
A Video That Sparked a Rescue
The video quickly spread online and reached dog rescuer Destiny Gomez.
“When I watched that video, it broke my heart,” Destiny told NBC Los Angeles. “I couldn’t stop crying. I couldn’t get that dog out of my mind.”
After learning that Chico was still wandering the area, Destiny immediately began searching for him. After several unsuccessful attempts, her boyfriend Kevin finally spotted the frightened dog and managed to gain his trust using small pieces of jerky.
Slowly and carefully, Chico was secured and brought to safety.
A Second Chance at Love
Once Chico was safe, the couple contacted Bella’s Animal Rescue, a local nonprofit organization that stepped in to help. The rescue took Chico under their care, ensuring he received medical attention, food, and the affection he had been cruelly denied.
Today, Chico is living with a loving foster family. He’s enjoying walks, playing with toys, socializing with other dogs, and finally experiencing what it feels like to be cared for.
He is now available for adoption, patiently waiting for a forever home where he will never be abandoned again.
From Abandonment to Hope
It’s hard to understand how anyone could leave behind such a loyal, loving dog. But thanks to the compassion of strangers, Chico’s story didn’t end on that lonely street.
