“I experienced every emotion that you could begin to imagine.”
Stephanie Moore-Malmstrom felt it was a joke when she received a text saying her dog, Sheba, had been located in a town more than 600 miles away.
“My first reaction was, ‘Where are my million bucks and cruise?'”
Moore-Malmstrom explained to us. “‘Someone is defrauding me.'”
Moore-Malmstrom remained doubtful after a police officer recognized Sheba using her microchip. Moore-Malmstrom recognized Sheba as her dog as soon as she saw her on FaceTime, despite the fact that the pup was considerably older.
“I was thinking, ‘Oh my God, you have my dog, you have our baby,'” says the author. Moore-Malmstrom explained.
Sheba was soon in the air, traveling home, thanks to Pilots N Paws, an organization committed to rescue animals by flying them back to their homes or to no-kill shelters.
Moore-Malmstrom was overcome with emotion when Sheba walked off the plane, finally seeing her puppy after such a long absence. Sheba was overjoyed to meet Moore-girls Malmstrom’s and ran over.
“I felt every feeling you could possibly conceive,” Moore-Malmstrom added. “Sheba couldn’t come to my girls fast enough.”
Sheba was finally secure in the arms of her family, and she was able to rest and revel in their affection.
After Sheba was kidnapped from their Baytown, Texas, yard in 2018, the Moore-Malmstrom family surmised that she was moved to the Texas panhandle, where she was subsequently adopted by a family with whom she resided for four and a half years. When that family was forced to relocate and re-home Sheba, her new owners decided they didn’t want to care for her and abandoned her on the street. Sheba was living outside with a local kid when an animal control officer discovered her and tested her microchip.
Moore-Malmstrom is appreciative to everyone who assisted in Sheba’s homecoming, particularly Borger Animal Control and Friends of Texas Panhandle Shelter Pets.
“There were so many individuals who came together to get her back to me,” Moore-Malmstrom said.
Sheba seemed to be relieved to be reunited with her family. Despite the fact that they’ve been away for so long, they’ll have the rest of their life to make up for lost time.
