The next train was coming soon so they had to act fast 🙀❄️
Coby Reid was investigating a stretch of railroad lines in the Rocky Mountain foothills when he stumbled upon a little mammal that seemed to blend in with its environment.
A juvenile bobcat sat in the middle of the tracks, seemingly unconcerned that he was causing traffic congestion. Reid told The Dodo, “The cat was reposed on his haunches with one arm draped casually over the rail, as if he were lounging in an armchair.”
The cat appeared to be unconcerned, but as Reid got closer, he realized the animal was in dire danger. When Reid and his colleague got out of the vehicle, they found that the cat was stuck to the metal rail and couldn’t move.
Reid realized they had to get the wild animal to safety before the train arrived, so he tried to warm him up by covering him with his jacket.
Wearing clothing didn’t appear to make the bobcat happy.
“We paused for a moment to consider the issue before calling our office and requesting that someone send us a bucket of hot water to assist us in removing the unlucky cat from the rail,” Reid explained. “Our boss came a short time later, water in hand and eager to help.”
The first bucket of water released one of the cat’s legs, but it also drove him insane. “The cat was free after a little persuading and additional warm water,” Reid added. “However, to our amazement, he refused to depart without a battle.”
Finally, barely in time, Reid and the other inspectors were able to pull the bobcat away from the rails.
“With the bobcat, we were able to finish our checks barely 30 minutes before the next train arrived,” Reid added. “The same train that would have taken our tiny friend’s life if we hadn’t been inspecting that morning.”
While the bobcat didn’t appear to appreciate the help, Reid was glad to be there to offer the little fella a second chance at life.
