“I was like, ‘Oh my goodness, it’s coming soon.’”
A inquisitive cat got into the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, on Saturday night and drew the attention of tens of thousands of football fans.
A stray cat went onto the top deck of the bleachers during the first quarter of a game between the University of Miami Hurricanes and the Appalachian State Mountaineers. The terrified cat slid over the railing and hung 50 feet above the ground.
The cat clung on some fabric, but the folks below realized he wouldn’t be able to keep it for long. As the cat’s grasp began to slip, fans screamed in surprise.
“They tried to catch it from above and couldn’t reach it, so they scared it downward,” said Craig Cromer, a University of Miami facilities manager, to NBC Miami. “It hung there with its two front paws for a short time, then one paw, and I was like, ‘Oh my goodness, it’s coming soon.'”
Cromer and his wife are season ticket holders who attend every game with an American flag. Just as the cat was about to fall, the quick-thinking couple unhooked the flag from the railing and held it out.
As the cat bounced into the flag, they made the finest catch of the game. As the audience roared, nearby spectators held up the unhurt cat for the entire stadium to witness.
The cat was taken up by stadium security and transported to safety. The stadium announced on Twitter that they had given a gift in the cat’s honor to the Humane Society of Greater Miami, and urged others to do the same.
We is still waiting for word from the stadium on where the cat is right now.
