“I knew he was coming home with me.”
One day in South Carolina, a family was out biking when they heard what appeared to be a dog sobbing. They were surprised to see a small dog buried behind a mound of mud and concrete when they pulled their motorcycles over to the side of the road to investigate. They instantly dialed 911 since they had no other way to assist and hoped that the police and firefighters from the North Charleston Fire Department could liberate the imprisoned dog.
Captain Paul Bryant of the North Charleston Fire Department told us, “They showed us where the dog was.” It was made up of various-sized, 4-foot by 4-foot concrete piles. We knelt down to investigate when one of the policemen indicated he could see the dog, and we were able to see his snout poking through the debris.
Captain Bryant tried to bring the puppy, subsequently named Rocky, out of the remaining soil and debris after removing the concrete slabs with a pry bar, but sadly there wasn’t enough room. Then, using a shovel, he began to dig until he had made enough room to remove the bewildered puppy to safety. No one knows how long Rocky was trapped there before help arrived, but the entire rescue only took approximately 11 minutes.
Little Rocky couldn’t stop kissing Bryant’s face in appreciation as soon as he was set free. Everyone, including Bryant, fell in love with the puppy right away since it was evident that he had a lot of energy and love to give. After they left, Bryant simply couldn’t get Rocky out of his thoughts. The family who had first discovered Rocky had promised to take him to a neighboring veterinary hospital to be examined for a microchip so he might perhaps be reunited with his family.
Charleston Animal Society took in Rocky, who was ultimately not microchipped. When Bryant learned that his possible family had not been found, he immediately realized what he needed to do.
Bryant questioned whether his owner had been located or whether the finder intended to retain the dog. I knew he was going home with me as soon as I learned he had no owner and the family who found him could not keep him.
Rocky immediately felt linked to Bryant as he pulled him out from beneath the concrete, and it seemed as though the two were destined to be together.
Bryant stated in a video about Rocky’s rescue, “I found out I was going to be able to adopt him, and I’ve been on a high ever since.”
Bryant went to Charleston Animal Society to pick up Rocky once he had a clean bill of health and was prepared to leave for his new permanent home.
… and as soon as Rocky saw his rescuer again, he could barely contain his excitement.Â
Rocky is now all settled into his new home and couldn’t be happier with how things turned out. He went from being trapped and alone to having the world’s best dad, and everyone involved is so thrilled that Bryant and Rocky ended up together.Â
He is a very vivacious dog that enjoys playing catch with his brand-new toys, according to Bryant. He follows me whenever I leave the room and is always at my side.
