A pitbull named Strawberry was on the brink of euthanasia simply because of two large lumps on her head. However, thanks to the compassionate intervention of The Labelle Foundation, this resilient pup not only survived but also found a loving home that cherishes her unique appearance.
A Dog in Desperate Need of Help
Strawberry was rescued in a dire state. She suffered from severe neglect, mange, and a painful skin infection that turned her coat a bright pink color. The most noticeable thing about her was the two large bumps on her head, which made her a less likely candidate for adoption. Many would have dismissed her due to her unusual look, but The Labelle Foundation saw her potential and stepped in before it was too late.
After thorough medical testing, veterinarians determined that the lumps were not cancerous or harmful—they were simply scar tissue from an old injury. However, removing them would have been purely cosmetic and carried unnecessary risks, including potential brain trauma.
Finding the Perfect Forever Home
With her lumps deemed non-threatening, the foundation set out to find Strawberry a family that would love her just the way she was. They affectionately referred to her as their “unicorn” pup, embracing her unique appearance.
Their patience paid off when Kristen Kuhlman from South Pasadena, California, came across Strawberry’s story on Instagram. The moment she saw Strawberry’s soulful eyes, she knew this dog belonged with her family.
“I had never seen a dog like her before,” Kristen shared in an interview. “She’s so unique and one in a million.”
A Challenging Yet Rewarding Adjustment
When Strawberry first arrived at her new home, adjusting wasn’t easy. She was confused and would cry at night, unsure of her surroundings. However, with time, patience, and love, she blossomed into a joyful and affectionate companion.
“She came out of her shell within a couple of weeks and became the most loving dog,” Kristen said. “She fits right into our family. It’s been amazing.”
