It was the realization that they were there to assist her that made her cry. ❤️️
Alice was living on the streets of California when she unintentionally consumed acid, resulting in horrific chemical burns to her face and lips. Rescuers from Hope for Paws hurried out to save her as soon as they heard about her suffering, hoping it wasn’t too late for the poor little canine.
When Eldad Hagar and Loreta Frankonyte arrived at the location where Alice had been discovered, they were astounded by her condition. Someone had left some food out for her, but she was so wounded that she couldn’t eat anything. Aside from her injuries, Alice’s fur was filthy, matted, and infested with ticks, and she was quite emaciated.
Alice was so disheartened that she scarcely reacted when Frankonyte started petting her, and she allowed Frankonyte place a leash around her neck. She was definitely terrified, but she also appeared happy that someone had seen her.
After a few moments, Frankonyte gently picked Alice and brought her back to the rescuers’ car. Alice began to relax once she was in the back of the car and cuddled up in the blankets her rescuers had given her. She even rolled onto her back for belly massages, and she seemed to recognize that these individuals were attempting to assist her.
Frankonyte and Hagar took Alice to the vet as soon as possible, and after evaluating her and her injuries, they found that she had chemical burns, ocular ulcers, anemia, and a heart murmur. In addition, she would require severe dental surgery to remove the majority of her teeth. They then shaved all of her matted fur away, showing exactly how emaciated she was below. Her body temperature was so low that they couldn’t give her a bath, so they massaged her down with warm, moist towels until she started to heal.
The tiny fighter of a dog was hospitalized for a week and was closely monitored by doctors. Frankonyte paid her daily visits and finally decided to foster her for a period in order to teach her how to live in a household and to show her what it’s like to be loved.
“Alice proceeded to her foster home, where Loreta cooked for her, treated her skin with coconut oil, and showed her plenty of love for the following two months,” Hagar wrote in a video about Alice’s rescue. “Loreta’s dogs, Bonnie and Coco, assisted Alice in learning how to be a well-loved pet.”
When Frankonyte and Hagar needed to leave town for a few days to assist with another rescue, they asked their friends Chris and Michele Gentry — who had previously adopted another dog they’d rescued — to keep Alice while they were gone. When Frankonyte and Hagar returned, they had fallen fully in love with Alice and asked if they might legally adopt her.
Now that she has found her forever home, Alice is having the time of her life. She now has so much fur and has gained so much weight that she resembles a whole different dog. She gets along great with her new sister Fiona, and her rescuers pay frequent visits to remind her of how many people she has in her life who love her unconditionally.
“This is really an incredible conclusion to this narrative, and we couldn’t be happier for everyone,” Hagar added.
