“That’s the nicest present you could offer him.” ❤️
Bully has lived through five presidents, the debut of the first iPhone, the growth of social media, and many other historical events since his birth in 1999 – but the Chihuahua probably won’t be able to tell you about any of them.
However, when the small dog was 23 years old, his owners celebrated by giving him a party he’ll remember for years to come.
Bully spent the first 21 years of his life with a loving family, where he enjoyed the company of his people while playing outside and going for runs at the nearby park. When his old owner was no longer able to care for him, the senior dog made his way to The Mr. Mo Project, a senior dog rescue headed by Chris Hughes and his wife.
Bully’s former owner characterized him as a “large dog in a tiny dog’s body,” and despite his elderly age, he hadn’t changed one bit.
Hughes described Bully as “feisty, mischievous, kind, independent, gentle, peaceful, and he has an old man bark.” “Even at his age, he likes to push another one of our Chihuahuas about.”
Bully need more rest than the normal puppy now that he is older. “Bully enjoys sleeping, and he has earned the right to do so,” Hughes added. “He will fall asleep wherever, sometimes on the kitchen floor, on a toilet pad, or on the biggest, most comfy bed in the corner.”
The Hughes family decorated their home in honor of Bully’s birthday and provided him the two things he loves most in the world – goodies and naps. “He doesn’t have many teeth,” Hughes explained, “so we purchased a soft biscuit and crushed it up for him to enjoy.” “He adores sleeping, so that’s the nicest gift you could offer him.”
Hughes takes every effort to make all of the elderly dogs in their care feel special by holding parties to honor any and all events with them.
“We try to appreciate all of the wonderful things that happen in our household because there are so many not-so-wonderful things that happen,” Hughes said. “We celebrate when dogs complete cancer treatments, birthdays, adoptions, and have been known to have Christmas in July if we believe someone will not make it till Christmas.”
Bully will be able to enjoy many more festivities as a result of the Hughes family’s generosity. And he’s earned it at the age of 23.
