Heroes can occasionally be of any age or stature. This happened recently in Brazil when a dog was struck by a car in the city of Itaja. After the person who hit the dog drove gone, the hurt dog stayed in the road.
The courageous 11-year-old Jean Fernandes, who was nearby at the time and watched the situation, decided to assist the dog and carry it to safety at that point. Jean then sprinted past the approaching cars to grab the injured and helpless puppy.
Fortunately, he managed to remove the dog from the center of the street without any problems or harm to either himself or the canine. Rubia Liliana Rose, Jean’s mother, said that this wasn’t particularly unusual behavior. She claimed that her son adores animals and will save those that are abused or abandoned.
Amazingly, photographer Rafaela Martins managed to catch every detail of the occurrence. After Brazil’s News Agency of Animal Rights shared the tale to its Facebook page on Monday, his images received applause from online users.
The wounded dog has since been given the name Honey, or Mel in Portuguese. She is still in the care of veterinarians at a nearby animal control facility, but she is doing great thanks to a courageous young man by the name of Jean.
