These wonderful surfers’ six hours of brave, unselfish action cannot be compensated. All for the sake of rescuing a tired whale trapped in the entrance of a tiny river near Boca Barranca, Costa Rica. It’s safe to assume that when the men came on the scene, their prospects were low to none! But, on the other hand, every opportunity was resurrected when this group gave up all of their time because someone needed them so badly.
When Mauricio Camareno and his friends were running to catch the waves early in the morning, an unusual noise drew their attention. The gang decided to explore because the source wasn’t too far away. They quickly discovered it was a newborn pilot whale in serious need of assistance when they drew closer.
“She was really weak and unable to stay afloat,” Camareno told Amelia Rueda of the local news station.
The men had forgotten about their surfing and went in to save the helpless beast. They carried her calf across open water at first, but it became too exhausted, so Camareno and his companions waited by its side until the tide turned around again.
The marine creature had to wait nearly six hours for her strength to return and the water to be deep enough for her to swim back into the ocean. These heroes kept the young whale floating so she could breathe and placed water over her to shelter her from the sun all the while.
Fortunately, after so many hours, the surfers’ efforts paid off, and the whale was able to rejoin her family in the water. Without the goodwill of these gentlemen, none of this would have been possible!
