Did you know that bears have the ability to purr? It may sound strange, but baby black bears can imitate the sound of your favorite feline, according to Utah reporter Shara Parks. One of these adorable bears was a set visitor from Yellowstone Bear World who quickly became friends with Park. The bear cub cuddled up to her neck, just like a real live teddy bear, and made the sweetest sound.
Park was taken aback when she heard such a strange noise coming from her small visitor. As she cooed at the cub, she murmured, “That implies I’m doing something right.” She then inquired about the sound with the bear’s handler. “When you pet a bear, it purrs like a cat, and it’s their happy noise,” the expert explained.
Bears communicate with other bears via vocalizations similar to humans. Jaw-popping, low grumbles, woofing, and moaning are among the sounds. When black bear cubs nurse, eat special delicacies, or are relaxed, they create motor-like joy sounds. They make this lovely sound when they are really relaxed and pleased, similar to a cat’s purr.
Park’s lovely bear was completely relaxed in her arms as she cradled it. “The highlight of my day.” It’d be difficult to top that!
Turn up the volume on the video below to hear the sweetest sound that will melt your heart.
