What made the bison dart across the highway? What difference does it make whether they utilize their allocated crossing areas? Tim Osborne, a Canadian wildlife photographer, snapped this interesting shot of a bison doing precisely that in December. He was driving up to Elk Island National Park, just outside of Edmonton, when he discovered the ideal photo opportunity.
“It’s great to see that Parks Canada’s bison have been successfully educated to use the designated crossings!” When Osborne shared the amusing photo on Twitter, he joked. The snapshot drew a lot of positive feedback from visitors who were amused by the photo’s impeccable timing. “We take their training VERY seriously,” Parks Canada said in a lighthearted response to his post.
By employing the right equipment and his knowledge as a wildlife photographer, Osborne was able to obtain the image from a safe distance. He says, “I have a long telephoto lens.” “When it comes to something as important as bison, I don’t play around.” They appear to be kind, but I don’t want to get on their wrong side.”
Fortunately, Osborne was at the right place at the right moment, and now we can all chuckle at his good fortune.
