Jimothy, who? Meet Mayonesa, the Dallas raccoon rescued from a mayonnaise jar

Move over, Jimothy — there’s a new raccoon winning hearts in Texas.

Mayonesa, as rescuers affectionately named her, spent days wandering around Dallas with a mayonnaise jar stuck over her head, leaving concerned residents desperately trying to help.

After several failed rescue attempts, Dallas Animal Services officers finally spotted her on August 3 in a tree near an abandoned house. They patiently waited for her to come down before an officer carefully approached from behind and safely captured her.

At the shelter, Mayonesa was lightly sedated and treated with fluids and medication before rescuers finally removed the jar. Although she was dehydrated after apparently going without food and water for several days, officials said she was otherwise in remarkably good condition and full of energy.

She was then transferred to Texas Metro Wildlife, where she will continue recovering before being returned to the wild.

The unusual rescue is also a reminder that seemingly harmless household waste can become a deadly trap for wildlife. Jars, cans and other containers should always be emptied and disposed of responsibly, especially in areas where wild animals live.

A Small Reminder That Can Save a Wild Life

Wild animals often encounter dangers created by everyday objects that people leave behind. Properly disposing of food containers, securing trash and keeping recyclable materials out of reach can prevent injuries and give wildlife a safer chance to survive. A few seconds of care from us can sometimes mean the difference between a frightening rescue and a healthy animal returning home.
