Seven dogs have captured millions of hearts after reportedly escaping a dog meat operation in China and making an extraordinary 10-mile journey back to their village together.
The dogs were spotted walking along a busy highway in Changchun, Jilin province. The group included Golden Retrievers, Labradors, a Pekingese, a German Shepherd and a Corgi that repeatedly looked back as if checking that none of the others had been left behind.
One of the dogs, the German Shepherd, appeared injured, while the others stayed close around it as they continued their journey. Volunteers later said the seven animals came from the same village and may have formed strong bonds before they were allegedly stolen.

According to local reports, the dogs may have escaped from a truck transporting animals to a meat shop, although the exact circumstances remain unconfirmed. Volunteers used a drone to track the group and help guide them toward safety.
The dogs were believed to have escaped on March 16 and reached their respective homes two days later. The highway where they were first seen was around 17 kilometers from their village.

One owner said her German Shepherd and Golden Retriever had safely returned home, adding that the family felt incredibly lucky. Another owner praised her Corgi for its remarkable ability to find its way home.
Videos of the dogs’ journey reportedly attracted more than 230 million views online, with viewers praising their loyalty and the way they appeared to protect and stay together during the difficult journey.

Their story is a powerful reminder of the extraordinary bonds dogs can form with one another — and of how determined animals can be when trying to return to the people and places they know as home.
A Reminder to Protect Animals
Stories like this highlight the importance of responsible animal ownership and stronger protection for animals. Dogs are capable of forming deep social bonds, remembering familiar people and places, and showing remarkable cooperation in difficult situations. Protecting them from theft, neglect and exploitation begins with responsible communities, humane treatment and greater awareness of animal welfare.
