Animals may provide a great deal of comfort to people in times of distress. It’s no wonder that many individuals desire nothing more than the companionship of their cherished pets as they’re nearing the end of their lives.
And, not long ago, a dying woman had a very unique visit from her beloved animal.
Lisa McDonald and her sister have been taking care of their ailing mother, who is in palliative care. They were looking for methods to make her last days memorable, and were inspired by their mother’s longstanding infatuation with the iconic Disney picture Bambi.
“She has Bambi sculptures all over the place, and she’s wearing a Bambi T-shirt in her bed,” Lisa noted in a Facebook post to the group The Kindness Pandemic. “My sister and I, as well as the rest of the family that is supporting us, are wearing Bambi T-shirts… we call them our nursing uniforms.”
As the mother’s health deteriorated, the family decided to surprise her with a visit from a genuine Bambi – a deer!
The old woman is thrilled and astonished when the deer enters the room.
The deer, dubbed “Bambi,” came from a petting farm run by a couple called Chris and Simone. The couple nurtured the deer when it was orphaned.
Lisa writes that they paid a special visit, travelling two hours from Melbourne “out of sheer love and generosity” to provide the deer-loving old lady some joy.
“I can’t thank them enough for everything they’ve done for my mother and family,” Lisa wrote.
It was well worth it: the deer’s visit provided an amazing, touching moment as the mother softly petted the real-life Bambi from her bed.
It’s evident how much Bambi and deer have meant to this woman, and the visit was undoubtedly one of the highlights of her dying days.
Her daughter claims she will keep her mother’s passion near to her heart till the end: Lisa writes that her mother will be cremated wearing one of her Bambi shirts.
We’re so delighted this woman was able to discover so much joy as a result of this adorable deer’s visit. It only goes to show how animals can be very soothing.
