“I wasn’t scared … she was beautiful.”
Talian Barros was riding his motorcycle to work in Roraima, Brazil, a few weeks ago when something in the route ahead caught his eye. He wasn’t sure what it was at first, but he knew it was big.
“I assumed it was a piece of wood or a tire,” Barros explained to The Dodo.
However, there was something far more wonderful.
As he approached the mysterious obstruction, Barros discovered the shocking reality as he paused for a better look. It was actually a massive anaconda rising from the surrounding bush to cross the road.
Fearing that the massive snake might be driven over, he parked his bike in the middle of the road to warn other traffic to come to a halt as well.
“My main concern was the animal’s well-being,” Barros explained. “It was sort of reckless [to pull over in the middle of the road], but I don’t regret it.”
Barros, along with others, signaled a halt and watched as the anaconda crossed the road safely.
After a few magnificent seconds, the anaconda finished her crossing and vanished back into the shelter of the bush.
The anaconda was believed to be around 18 feet long — and because Barros was watching out for her, she was safe to continue growing.
Was she a commanding figure? Certainly. But Barros can’t help but feel fortunate to have come across her.
“I wasn’t afraid. “In fact, I was ecstatic, relieved to have been humiliated by that beast,” he claimed. “She was lovely — a gift.”
