Roman Fedortsov, a Russian fisherman, has loaded his Twitter account with photographs of the most strange deep-sea species imaginable. The man behind the camera works on a fishing trawler in Murmansk (in Russia’s far northwest) and uses his phone to film the terrifying creatures that get caught in the nets. Some say the weird fish seem like something out of a horror film. Fedortsov, on the other hand, shows no fear when handling these strange sea creatures and even adds a sense of humour to his tweets.
The images sparked some debate and backlash, with some arguing that deep sea creatures should be left alone. Many deep-sea fish die as a result of the pressure change when brought to the surface, raising the question of whether they should be killed for the sake of a sensational tweet. Furthermore, after witnessing such terrifying fish for the first time, people are concerned that humans will destroy the delicate ecosystem of the mysterious ocean floor beings.
