At the Kasang Kulim Zoo in Indonesia, an orangutan attacked a man who trespassed into its enclosure.
Hasan Arifin, a zoo visitor, defied the zoo’s restrictions by climbing over a barrier that divides the animals from the visitors on Monday in order to grab a video with the orangutan.
The monkey initially grabs the victim by his clothes, according to video from the incident.
A companion tries to free the man from the orangutan’s clutches, but the animal grabs his leg instead.
The man screams in terror as the orangutan and his friend engage in a tug of war, with the monkey tightening its grip and tugging him towards the enclosure while the man hangs by his side.
He is eventually able to free himself from the orangutan thanks to his companion.
According to a Snopes article, the man allegedly kicked the animal before beginning to tape the footage, according to Kasang Kulim Zoo manager Desrizal.
The orangutan and the tourist were both unharmed in the encounter.
“I apologise to the Kasang Kulim Zoo for crossing the fence and I apologise for the viral video,” Arifin later said of his violation of the zoo’s laws.
