It turned out to be the best mistake ❤️️
When José Eduardo Millani Ramos went for an early morning walk near his house in Brazil last week, he had no idea the twisting and turning drama that would ensue.
When Ramos goes on walks, his pet dog, Ikki, often follows a short distance behind him.
However, by the time Ramos went home that day, the pup had vanished.
Ramos and his family began searching the streets for Ikki and asking others to do the same — all to no avail.
“I was devastated when he vanished,” Ramos told The Dodo. “It seemed like a piece of myself had been torn away.” I had to know what had happened to him.”
After two days of futile research, the family appeared to have found their answer. Ramos read a message online about a lost dog being saved, and he recognized the pup’s distinguishing features.
Ikki has been discovered! Did he, or didn’t he?
Ramos drove to Ikki’s house and was overjoyed to see his wagging tail again. Aside from being dirtier than when Ramos last saw him, the dog appeared to be in good health.
“I yelled out his name, and he came running to me,” Ramos explained. “He refused to stop licking me.”
Back at home, the dog rapidly returned to his cheery, loving ways, behaving exactly as he had always done.
“He gave me a kiss. “We played,” Ramos explained. “I felt whole again.”
The only problem was that this wasn’t Ikki.
After a few days of having the dog at home, Ramos observed that some of the spots on his back didn’t match those on Ikki.
Ramos understood the truth when he compared the puppy he’d brought in to images of Ikki.
This dog was a forgery.
Ramos and his family were surprised, but not upset. They had grown fond to this counterfeit dog, whom they named Paolo.
However, it meant that the actual Ikki was still missing. But he wouldn’t be gone for long.
Ramos resumed his search online and discovered a post announcing the discovery of another dog similar Ikki — and the spots on this pup all matched up.
Again, Ramos drove to pick up his missing dog.
Only this time, it was really him.
All had been set right. But Ramos and his family ended up all the richer for the saga.
They decided to keep Paolo and to love him alongside Ikki for a lifetime.
“We made the decision to keep the imposter. Paolo was formerly a homeless dog, but today he completes everything “Ramos stated. “He is not at fault. He, too, deserves a home.”
Best of all, Ikki has no ill feeling toward the dog who assumed his identity. In fact, he and Paolo act as if they’ve always been together.
“They’re friends now,” Ramos said.
In searching for Ikki, Ramos and his family found more than they ever imagined.
“I am lucky to have them,” Ramos said. “It was a mistake that ended very well.”
