A small newborn eagle chick was hand-fed through the mouth of an eagle puppet head on the last day of 2021 at the Philippine Eagle Foundation in Davao City, Philippines, in order to retain limited interaction with humans.
To keep Chick 29 from becoming used to human presence, we adopted puppet rearing. A natural bonding with another eagle might be aided by limiting human interaction.
The puppet, created by Featherdust Studio’s natural artist Jennifer Miller, was so lifelike that it gave “Chick 29” a lot of instinctual comfort and encouragement as the eaglet grew.
Chick 29 is a foodie to the core. Take a look at it go! This time, there’s no need for assistance. The eagle puppet is merely there to cheer you up.
