Things have gone wrong for this sun-loving hippo, yet he appears to be content. The massive animal was seen resting on its back in the water, its legs in the air, as it took advantage of the pleasant weather. The hippo was snapped by photographer Jackie Cilliers in South Africa’s Kruger National Park, who was taken aback by the odd image.

The 52-year-old, who was on vacation with her family, photographed the hippo from a hide around 10 meters away. The hippo was observed sunbathing its beautiful pink belly, which was the epitome of calm. Photographer Jackie Cilliers initially mistook the animal for wounded, but it was subsequently discovered to be relaxing in the water.

She initially mistook the creature for wounded, but it appears that it was attempting to tan its bright pink abdomen. ‘The photos show the hippo pushing his companion off, turning over, reclining on his back, and yawning,’ Jackie added. The hippo ran the risk of being attacked by its mate, who it continued to push over. The hippo was observed in South Africa’s Kruger National Park, where it seemed to enjoy being upside down. As he took his unique stance, which had numerous people laughing, the lethargic hippo had company.

I assumed it was hurt or sick at first, but it happened multiple times and stayed immobile on its back for several minutes at a time. ‘It appeared to like the fact that it was upside down.’ The visuals astonished and pleased me, as did the others in the conceal, and several individuals laughed at the antics. ‘What I like best about him is his pink tummy.’ I doubt I’ll ever see something like this again because it’s the first time I or anybody I know has ever seen something like it.’

When photographer Jackie Cilliers captured the beautiful photographs of the hippos, she was in a hide approximately 10 meters away. The hippo with its legs in the air floated on its back in the water in the Kruger National Park in a playful stance. Jackie was concerned that the animal was hurt, but he afterwards looked to be having fun floating on his back. The images were obtained from a Kruger National Park hide.
