An explorer who spent three years hunting for a glimpse of an exceedingly rare white moose in Sweden finally got lucky when one of the animals crossed his path.
In a video that went viral, Hans Nilsson captured the moment he noticed the four-legged creature on the banks of a stream in the western county of V….
The video shows the species, which is only found in the nation in small numbers, clumsily wading into a deep creek up to its neck before carefully pulling itself across to the other side.
“You watch the white moose walk down into the water, take few paces forward, climb on the other side, bite some leaves, and then turn to me and look directly into the camera,” Mr Nilsson explained.
“It’s a terrific experience to see such a rare animal that isn’t worried about humans,” he continued. “It’s a grand moose.”
The video, which lasts just over a minute, went viral in hours and has been viewed over one million times, with over 3,000 comments since it was shared on Facebook.
“There has been a lot of attention and many who enjoy and share,” Mr Nilsson added. That’s because it’s so unique,” according to Sverige Radio. Much of the excitement stems from the animal’s rarity in Sweden, where scientists estimate there are only 100 compared to over 400,000 of the more common breed.
Many of the thousands who commented on social media platforms after the video went viral joked that seeing the creature was so unusual that it could herald the end of the world. “This is the indication of the end times, right?” Will wrote. Is it almost over?”
But Jon Tronc posted: “The ghost moose has come to save us! Or maybe leave presents! It can’t be another sign of the apocalypse. We’ve had so many of those already.”
