While summer may be drawing to an end, Raquel Rodrigo’s beautiful flower arrangements in Valencia keep Spain in bloom. The large-scale stitched flowers have appeared all throughout the city, adorning simple buildings and converting decrepit stores into lovely hand-made wonders.
Rodrigo, whose varied background includes window display, interior design, and stage decorating, uses a classic cross-stitch method to create the vibrant graphics. Her site-specific designs preserve the delicate beauty of the craft, despite the use of thick, rope-like thread and robust wire mesh.
Rodrigo’s designs, dubbed ArquiCostura (a smart mix of architetura (architecture) and costura (needlework), cleverly play with space and provide a novel twist on street art.
