What Colorado Springs fire officials initially believed to be pups trapped in a storm drain were really foxes.
It was a genuine error that was simple to make in Colorado Springs at this time of year.
Firefighters were summoned to save what they believed to be a litter of puppies stuck in a storm drain with their mother missing.
But it turned out that the eight tiny infants were red fox pups, a distinct species.
After being given to The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, a veterinarian there confirmed the animals were actually foxes rather than dogs.
In the hopes that their mother will show up, the “kits” will be delivered back to their original location. If not, they will be transported to a treatment centre.
