“He always lights up people’s day.”
People on trains often try to avoid communicating with their fellow passengers.
Unless, of course, one of those passengers is Cosmo, a delightful 2-year-old Italian greyhound.
Greyhounds have a reputation for being slightly apprehensive canines, and many of them require some extra time to develop affection and trust in humans. Cosmo, on the other hand, goes to work defying that preconception every time his paws touch the train platform.
Cosmo was having a particularly easy time making friends on a Tuesday afternoon on the London Underground metro train. Cosmo encountered a woman holding a coffee, a man in a suit, and travelers with bags tucked by their sides and beneath their feet — and no matter who he met, Cosmo was ready to bring delight and comfort to anyone who offered him pets.
“I enjoy taking him on the train with me because he always brightens people’s days,” Cosmo’s mother, Megan Lane, told The Dodo. “He wishes to befriend everyone he encounters.”
Lane stated that she is always wary when Cosmo leaps up to a stranger, especially when he jumps straight on their knees. Cosmo becomes the honorary London Underground Therapy Dog once she discovers that the majority of people are eager to offer him the love he seeks.
“Everyone smiles and asks if they can hold or stroke him,” Lane says.
Cosmo has a history of providing company and love to those in need. Cosmo proved to be the ideal companion in Lane’s time of need.
“I bought him when I was heartbroken and terrified of living alone for the first time in my life,” Lane explained. “He’s been great company and my little pal.” He sleeps on my legs under the covers.”
Cosmo is on a mission to brighten everyone’s day, whether he’s snuggling his mom at home or nuzzling a new best buddy he just met. He sets a good example, demonstrating that even the most isolated commuters can appreciate meeting a stranger on the train.
