Animals and children may frequently become great companions. The two have a sense of curiosity and amusement about the world, which makes them ideal partners for many kinds of activities. For photographers, the profound link that exists between children and animals offers a plethora of creative opportunities. With a series of images featuring her daughter Raven and their rescue dog Jack, photographer Robin Chavez Brazill shows exactly how wonderful and magical this can be.
As soon as Raven returned home from the hospital, Jack fell in love with her. He desired to remain in close proximity to her at all times. Brazill recalls a day when Raven was a baby and would lay on the floor. The dog would do the same and lie down on his back. “To put it simply,” Brazill adds, “wherever Raven was, Jack was there as well.” “As a photographer, I frequently capture lovely images of my daughter, and Jack would frequently appear in prepared shots.”
Although Jack’s photobombing was first irritating, Brazil gradually came to like it. She viewed it as a chance to start a new series called The Raven and Jack Story. The two closest friends play make-believe against a simple backdrop of an empty room in the storybook pictures of the girl and her dog. They are the show’s main attraction.
Raven and Jack are occasionally seen enjoying a meal of spaghetti, as in the film Lady and the Tramp. They appear to be robots in another photograph. While each inventive snapshot centers on Raven and Jack, they will be joined by additional friends. Another of Brazill’s dogs and stuffed animals are invited to an extravagant tea party in one photograph.
Regardless of the depiction, one thing is apparent in The Story of Raven and Jack: they adore one other and will be friends for many years.
