Neil and Tippi Examining the News
Tippi Hedren, the actress from Alfred Hitchcock’s film The Birds, just returned from a vacation in Africa with her husband Noel Marshall and her daughter Melanie Griffith, who is also an actor. Following their expedition, the three decided to make a film about lions. They have to get to know lions better in order to develop a realistic one. So they sought help from Ron Oxley, an animal trainer, who advised them to live with lions until the family became more acquainted with them. They did exactly what he said!

The Bed Is Shared
Would you recommend that other people open their doors to a lion? Perhaps you wouldn’t. However, that was excellent advise for this family! Actually, it was better than anyone could have predicted. Neil was their visitor; he was a male lion, a massive monster in comparison to his human companions. He was not, however, the only member of the family that lived with them. Other creatures from the wild had taken up residence in the California mansion. Neil, on the other hand, was the most lovable.
Take a peek at the images from the early 1970s to see Neil spending time with his human companions, napping, reading the newspaper, raiding the fridge, and more. It’s incredible to witness this massive, almost vicious beast lounging by the pool or napping on the kitchen floor. As you can see, Neil resembles a large household cat rather than a deadly wild animal.

The family’s film, Roar, was released in 1981. Unfortunately, it was a commercial failure; it cost $17.5 million to produce and only made $2 million in total. Furthermore, during the filming of the film, some of the human cast members (about 70 individuals) were hurt, and Melanie was mauled by a lioness and required facial sutures. Whatever occurred, the family’s love for huge cats remained unwavering. Tippi built the Shambala Preserve after the film was completed, a refuge for wild animals in poor health. Tippi Hedren and her 70 animal companions are still living at the Shambala Preserve. Among the 70 is Michael Jackson’s Bengal tiger.
A life with a lion appears to be both magnificent and perilous. You won’t have to worry about robbers, but you’ll have to contend with hairballs as large as the cats themselves.
