Do you have a pet who has had an amputation or who suffers from a locomotory disorder? It must be difficult to watch your pet go through all of that trouble on a daily basis.
This is where 3D Pets come in, as they have discovered the best solution to such problems.
3D Pets is a company that uses 3D printing technology to create customized prosthetics for your pets. In an interview, Adam Hecht, Co-Founder of 3D Pets, discussed his company and how it operates.
They first send out a casting kit, which the owner will use to wrap their pet. This material will eventually harden and harden into a mold. The procedure is also quite simple.
3D Pets will scan the mold directly into their computer, which will then be modified with custom software to the needs and body of the pet. This is when they design their own “Body Jacket.” The pet’s “Body Jacket” is printed in color on a high-resolution 3D printer using flexible Thermoplastic Poly-Urethane (TPU).
Before shipping, the company will sand and remove any imperfections, attach human-grade prosthetic components, and perform a final inspection.
The material they use is the same material that they use to make phone cases. Because they do not use springs, they are designed to be impact-absorbent and lightweight.
SUCCESS STORIES FOR 3D PETS
A dog named Jack was an excellent example of one of their success stories.
Jack was discovered on the side of the road with a severely injured leg. He was then amputated, rehabilitated, and dropped off at an adoption center.
People attempted to adopt him, but he was eventually returned until he met Rhea.
Rhea took it upon herself to find a way to prolong Jack’s health after he began to slow down due to joint deterioration. She discovered 3D Pets and eventually came to them.
They inserted the device, but Jack nearly collapsed on his face. This was not a good sign for the company, but Rhea refused to give up. Every day for almost three weeks, she put it on Jack for 10-15 minutes at a time. When Jack returned to 3D Pets, he was galloping and running all over the place.
“It was the most incredible feeling to see that, and it gives us so much hope for when other people say, ‘Hey, my dog isn’t getting the hang of it just yet.'” He responds that in such situations, one must remain positive and give it some more time. Jack represented hope and what was possible.
3D Pets also creates customized carts for pets who would be unable to walk otherwise. These are for pets who have two front deformities, or whose arms are proportionately smaller or missing entirely. Pets cannot use standard wheelchairs because they lack the strength to stay in the harness.
Adam and his team collaborate with charitable organizations and animal shelters to provide hope to pets.
Another success story was a goat from the New Jersey-based Goats of Anarchy. Because the animal was born with a hole in its skull, they created a custom helmet for it.
Another incredible story is Waddles, the duck. They were filming for a show when they put the duck’s prosthetic leg on. The bird, who had never walked before, dashed across the room.
3D Pets strives to assist as many animals as possible by providing effective and comfortable prosthetics.
