A mother and her son were recently out hiking in Surrey, England when they stumbled upon an unusual sight. As they looked up at the sky, they noticed a strange, cube-like cloud formation that seemed out of place among the more typical puffy, white clouds.
The mother, Louise Murphy, snapped a photo of the unusual cloud and shared it on social media, where it quickly went viral. Many people were intrigued by the cloud’s shape and speculated about its origins. Some even joked that it looked like a giant cube of ice or a spacecraft from another planet.
However, meteorologists were quick to point out that the cloud was most likely a type of cumulus cloud known as a “cloud street.” These clouds form when moist air rises and cools, creating a line of cumulus clouds that are aligned with the wind direction.
Cloud streets can take on a variety of shapes, including long lines, checkerboards, and yes, even cubes. While they may look unusual, they are actually a relatively common phenomenon and are often seen in areas with a lot of moisture and unstable atmospheric conditions.
Despite the scientific explanation for the cloud, many people remain fascinated by its unusual shape and have been sharing their own photos of similar cloud formations. It just goes to show that even in our modern world, there are still plenty of natural wonders to be found if we keep our eyes open and our sense of wonder alive.
