Kitsap County, WA – A local woman found herself in an unusual predicament last week when nearly 100 raccoons descended upon her property. The unexpected invasion prompted her to call 911 for assistance.

The incident took place in a rural area of Kitsap County, just across Puget Sound from Seattle. The woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, reported that the raccoons had begun congregating in her backyard several weeks ago. The situation escalated when the animals became increasingly aggressive and prevented her from leaving her home.

Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home in Washington state on Oct. 3, 2024, after a resident called to report dozens of raccoons in her backyard. The woman had been feeding raccoons for nearly 40 years, according to KCSO.

According to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office, the woman had been feeding the raccoons on her property for over three decades. However, the recent influx of animals, combined with their aggressive behavior, forced her to seek help.

Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home in Washington state on Oct. 3, 2024, after a resident called to report dozens of raccoons in her backyard. The woman had been feeding raccoons for nearly 40 years, according to KCSO.

Deputies responding to the call found the woman surrounded by the raccoons. While the animals were not immediately aggressive towards the deputies, the woman expressed her fear and concern about the situation. She described the raccoons as “scratching on windows or walls of her home at all hours.”

State wildlife officials were notified of the incident and advised the woman to avoid feeding the animals. Feeding wildlife can lead to increased disease transmission and can also cause animals to lose their fear of humans.

The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office is urging residents to be cautious and avoid feeding wildlife. By doing so, they can help prevent similar incidents and protect both humans and animals.
