A video of Indian elephants holding a funeral service akin to one for a human baby elephant was released online last Friday by Parveen Kaswan, a forest ranger in the Indian Foreign Service.
As shocked social media users flocked to share their shock and compassion for the elephants, Kawan’s video went viral.
A baby elephant’s dead body is seen in the trunk of the elephant in the video, which was posted on Twitter and shows an elephant emerging from some bushes.
As it waited for additional elephants to join, the adult elephant laid its body down and watched over it. More elephants showed up and gathered around the baby elephant in a line that resembled a funeral procession.
The baby was then raised by the original elephant once more, with additional elephants following.
The Twitter post garnered more than 5,000 re-tweets and over 12,000 likes on the platform.
Elephants have previously been observed grieving their dead, not unlike how humans have.
We found this display touching. What about you? Let us know how this video makes you feel in the comments!

Elephants, animals in general won’t enter eternity, heaven or hell, like children. That’s the protection god gives them.

Why do you say children won’t enter heaven ?..

I believe animals have more compassion than people do half the time and more than we give them credit for. The human race should stand back and learn from the animals we live with. They don’t kill the earth 🌎

Amen. The earth doesn’t need us to survive, but we do.
