“Stevie wagged his tail and said a special goodbye to everyone” ❤️️
Stevie was about a year old when he arrived at Dogtown SA as a stray. He was friendly and outgoing with both people and other dogs from the start. His new shelter companions assumed it wouldn’t take long before he got his forever home, but that wasn’t the case.
Stevie was passed over time and again for six years, and no one knew why.
“[It] was always a mystery to us,” Dogtown SA adoptions manager Elanza Kloppers told The Dodo. “Stevie met several prospective families, but for some reason, another dog was always picked.” Many of his housemates were adopted throughout the years, and we were always hoping for the same for Stevie. Being a black dog didn’t help either, as black canines are frequently neglected at shelters.”
Despite the long wait, Stevie and his rescuers never lost faith that his ideal family was out there someplace — and they were correct.
“I couldn’t wait to tell the team when I finally got the word from the adopter that Stevie was the one,” Kloppers said. “They were ecstatic! It finally occurred to our boy. We’ve all been hoping and praying for this for a long time! I also informed our volunteers right away, and they couldn’t believe it. Everyone was overjoyed for Stevie. It was breathtaking to witness.”
Finally, someone decided that Stevie was the right dog for them, and the team began preparing to send him off to his permanent home. Because Stevie had been at the shelter for so long, everyone who worked there had grown to love him like their own dog. They wanted to do something special to commemorate his time at the shelter and celebrate his next chapter, so on his last day, as he walked out to his car, everyone at the shelter queued up to say one last hello and farewell to their beloved Stevie.
“All of our adoptions are wonderful, but some are extraordinary,” Kloppers added. “Over the years, we’ve had one or two adoptions that really stood out, and we’ve always had a special farewell for those dogs.” “Everyone on the squad wanted to say farewell and wish him luck.”
Stevie was ecstatic as he made his way down the line of his applauding buddies. He appeared to recognize the significance of the occasion and was overjoyed that all of his pals had come out to see him depart. It was the happiest day ever for Stevie.
Kloppers stated, “Stevie wagged his tail and said a particular goodbye to everyone.” “He has grown to like our team, and I’m sure he couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw all of his favorite people there, wishing him luck and cheering him on.” It was a difficult day for all of us. Stevie got into the truck with his usual, wiggle bum, as if he knew his day had finally arrived! He jumped inside the van, warm in his favorite jacket and accompanied by his favorite friends.”
Stevie has finally settled into his forever home and is doing really well. His new father refers to him as Stevie Wonderful and adores him, and it’s evident that Stevie feels the same way. They go everywhere together and are looking forward to many more experiences. It took a while, but Stevie has finally found his happily ever after, and the entire Dogtown SA crew is overjoyed for him.
