“He made no move to run away … Maybe he realized I was there to help.”
Matea noticed a small ball of fluff by the side of the road a few months ago as she was riding her bicycle home from work. The fluff turned out to be a little stray kitten who was wandering alone close to a major junction as she pedalled closer.
People weren’t even stopping to look at him, Matea said, “which made me know he probably wouldn’t get the treatment he needed.” I’ve always had a soft spot for animals in need, so when I saw this little guy wandering around without anyone giving him a second thought, I knew I had to take action.
Matea stopped her car and approached the kitten with caution. However, as soon as she picked him up, he seemed to unwind in her arms and appear appreciative that somebody had seen him. He didn’t attempt to flee, Matea claimed. “Perhaps he knew that I was there to assist,”
The kitten was put inside Matea’s backpack, where he settled down right away. When I first put him in a backpack, he was a little upset, Matea recalled. He soon became comfortable on the dress I was wearing and dozed off on it. I believe he understood he had a cosy bed to sleep in.
At home, Matea gave the little tabby cat a name—Gizmo—and let him continue to sleep in her bag, where he felt secure. The kitten was sent to the vet because Matea and her partner realised he was in horrible form and needed fluids, a deworming, and flea treatment.
Gizmo soon began to feel better and quickly began to show his endearing personality.
He is like the Energizer rabbit, Matea remarked, bouncing around, biting at your ankles, and playing with all of his toys. “On occasion, he will hop on my back, as though remembering that trip on my back when I first found him.”
Gizmo and Matea have established a rhythm fast, and the kitten always seeks to be as near to his mother as possible.
When I wake up in the morning and when I return home from work, he loves to cuddle up to me, Matea said. Every morning, when I sip my coffee, he takes a 30-minute snooze in my lap as we begin our day.
Matea is forever grateful that she took the time to stop on that crucial day since she now finds it impossible to imagine her life without Gizmo.
Matea stated, “I simply want my tale to maybe encourage someone else to look out for the most vulnerable animals and help in any way they can.
