“I was walking along the boardwalk looking at the ocean when she flew right up next to me!”
It just takes a few seconds to aid another species, and happily, a good person walking along a boardwalk recently saw the chance.
When Arizona native Jack Neal was touring Santa Barbara, California, with his mother, a wild pigeon chose to join them.
“I was walking along the boardwalk looking at the ocean when she flew right up next to me!” Neal told us.
When the pigeon landed on a neighboring water fountain, Neal was still staring at her, as if she had done so on purpose.
“She appeared to be straining to get oily water from what was left in the water fountain,” Neal explained, “and I felt she might use some assistance.”
Being a wild pigeon is fantastic for flying, but not so great for running a water fountain.
So Neal leaned over and pressed the button on her behalf.
While Neal remained there holding the button, the pigeon appeared to be satisfied, leaning into the stream of fresh water many times for lengthy drinks.
Neal’s mother was extremely pleased with how kind her kid was to the pigeon. Neal explained, “She shot the video because she thought it was sweet.”
“I have two dogs, two cats, and a very rowdy bearded dragon,” Neal explained. “I am unquestionably an animal lover!”
And, judging on this pigeon, animals appear to adore him back.
