A heart-wrenching story of pet abandonment has recently surfaced from Surprise, Arizona, leaving animal lovers everywhere deeply upset.
A shocking video, shared widely on Facebook, shows a woman callously abandoning a dog on a quiet residential street. The dog, confused and abandoned, is seen running after her vehicle as she drives away.
Abandoned and left behind
Captured by a security camera on March 8, 2025, the disturbing footage begins with a red SUV turning around on a dead-end street.
As the vehicle prepares to leave, the rear door opens, and a woman is seen pushing a black and white dog out onto the road.
In a cold and casual manner, she says “bye-bye” before speeding off. The dog, visibly distressed, sprints after the car, desperate to return to the person who just left him behind.
A hero steps in
Joanna Buesen, who was walking her own dog nearby, witnessed the entire heartbreaking scene. She was at the right place at the right time, only to see something so heartbreaking.
“I was angered. I was flabbergasted, shocked. Just so many emotions,” Buesen told Arizona Family.
Noticing the distressed dog running after the car, Buesen gently called out to him. At the sound of her voice, the dog immediately turned and ran toward her.
Finally, someone showed him kindness. Buesen took the dog home, providing him with food and comfort before local animal control officers arrived to take him into their care.
A community’s outrage
Buesen expressed her shock over the cruelty shown by the dog’s former owner, particularly the casual “goodbye” that was caught on camera.
“I think that they had no remorse for their actions, and I think that is the telltale that it is malicious intent,” she shared. “I understand things are hard and things can be tough in life, but you don’t have to be a soulless human. And that is just a soulless thing.”
Other neighbors who spoke with Arizona’s Family described the act as “heartless.”
“We’ve seen them dumping all kinds of other things but not animals. That’s just. That’s a new level. A new level of just…ugh,” said Kim Igo.
Justice in the works
The heartless act did not go unnoticed. With the video clearly showing the SUV’s license plate, law enforcement quickly launched an investigation.
By March 11, FOX 10 Phoenix reported that the individuals responsible for abandoning the dog had been identified. Both the man and woman involved turned themselves in and are now facing charges of animal cruelty.
Fresh start
The once-abandoned dog is now safe and receiving care at an Arizona shelter. He will soon be available for adoption, ready to start a new chapter in life after such a painful betrayal.
